GEPF members receive retirement benefits when they:
- Go on normal retirement at the age of 60;
- Take early retirement upon permission of their employer; or
- Choose to retire, with penalties.
Taking normal retirement - what to do:
When going on normal retirement, the Human Resources department needs the following documents:
- A correct and completed Withdrawal from Fund Application Z102 form.
- A correct and completed Banking Details Z894 form.
- The Z583 form is needed when one has more than 10 years’ service and is a member of a medical aid scheme.
- A certified copyof the member’s green bar-coded identity document or passport that is not older than six months; and
- A correct and completed Retirement Choice form.
The Human Resources department will then complete the remaining paperwork and submit this, together with the forms the member has completed, to GEPF.
Taking early retirement - what to do:
A member can retire any time after his or her 55th birthday and before he or she turns 60, if the written permission of employer is received and the member understands the penalties, in terms of funds rules, of this choice.
To claim early retirement benefits, the Human Resources (HR) department needs the following documents:
- Completed Z102 form.
- Completed Z894 form.
- Completed Z583 form if the member has more than 10 years of service and is a member of a medical aid scheme.
- A letter of approval for early retirement, signed by the member’s Head of Department.
- A certified copy of the member’s green bar-coded identity document that is not older than six months; and
- A correct and completed Retirement Choice form.
